Oh deer...

Deer hunting opened in MO on Sept 15, and Wade got his first deer last night while hunting on post. He even called to see if it was okay to go last night, I knew I should have said no!!! I'm not too fond of the deer meat, I would be okay with donating to a homeless shelter. As long as he makes it into jerky or deer sticks that is fine, but don't expect me to be making any deer chili or deer tacos any time soon. The worst thing I made was deer meatballs, I don't recommend that. Last night two LT's from the Battalion had to come over to see a dead deer and how to cut out the meat. They are city boys and this was their first experience with a deer. Kind of funny.
Wade wanted Whitney in the picture and I didn't trust him that his hands were clean, so I guess this became a family photo.

Sweet Potatoes

We tried food yesterday for the first time and we started with sweet potatoes. She was not a big fan. Her whole body just shuddered at the taste. She kept coming back for more, but each time she still didn't like it! After a few bites I even tried to blah it up by adding rice cereal and water, she still didn't like it. We'll try again today and then maybe move on to applesauce. Poor thing was all ready for her cereal and I shoved some flavor in her mouth. She looked at me like, 'why are you doing this to me, mom?'

Road Trip

We decided to test the waters to see how Whitney would do on a car ride. It is no big secret that she hates her car seat and we can't go anywhere. Well, she still hates it. She has been starting to cry herself to sleep driving around the area and on Friday evening I went to Wal-Mart and she fell asleep on the way home, so I drove past our house and kept on driving! I wanted her to get used to the feeling of sleeping in her car seat and I like to drive and enjoy the relaxation of just listening to the radio. I cruised around for an extra 20 minutes. Back to our trip... Wade has been begging to go to Bass Pro for weeks, maybe months, so I finally got up the nerve to give it a shot. (Bass Pro is in Springfield about 1 1/2 hrs away) Traveling is very hard for me too when she is upset. There is nothing you want to do more when your child is upset than to hold them and comfort them. After her 20 minute time limit of doing anything she started freaking out. We stopped for gas and for Wade to check the trailer (this was also a test run for Wade's new trailer) she was instantly happy as soon as we took her out. Put her back in, she started screaming. She cried herself to sleep and we made it there. I so wanted to turn around and go back home. I was already dreading the drive back, and if it hadn't been for Wade I would have quit. It was a short stay at Bass Pro, but we made it there. And she was excellent while there. I'd say an hour and a half trip is at the peak of my comfort level for traveling with her. For now, please don't ask me to go any farther!! On the way there. You could also repeat this image for the last half hour of the drive home. The drive home was better, she slept most of the way home and we made it back without stopping. If you look closely I think that label says WARNING, this car seat will make your baby cry!
In front of the bear, duh captain obvious. You would think it was our first time at Bass Pro.

Whitney trying on some antlers.

Whitney practicing her super sneak attack move.

Yes, she has found her thumb. She won't suck on a pacifier, so if this is what comforts her, whatever. She hasn't figured out that she should suck on it while she's upset, but hopefully that will come soon. In other cute Whitney news, she is learning to say ba, da, ga, boo, doo, and goo, along with all the other vowel sounds. It won't be too long and she'll be saying da da all over the place. Too bad they couldn't figure out ma ma first!

I Did It!!

Our neighbor's dogs had another episode last night. After ten minutes of barking I dug out the phone book and started looking up the number for the Waynesville police. Whitney was awake at this point and crying, so I decided after I got her back down that if the dogs were still barking I would call the police. Now I am one PO'd mama. After about 40 minutes with Whitney the dogs were still barking so I called the cops. I went back to bed but after a few minutes I was curious as to how long it would take for them to show up, so I set up shop at our back door. Within minutes they were there, and thank goodness the dogs were still barking. I would have felt pretty stupid if they had stopped by the time they got there. I was so excited that I finally did something about it that I couldn't fall asleep again. Oh well, I'll give up a night of sleep for one small victory. You may be thinking that I should have been a bit more neighborly and said something to them personally, but I am thinking they should be a bit more neighborly and control their dogs. 5-10 minutes of barking, whatever, after half an hour, no way. I call the cops. And that's what I have to say about that. I am THAT neighbor now!

Not Funny

Whitney has been pretty tempermental with her cereal all of a sudden. I used to lean her back and she would eat and swallow the cereal just fine. Now that she knows how to sit up, she wants nothing to do with leaning back, so I sit her up. She doesn't quite know what to do with her tounge yet and most of the cereal falls back out. I can't make it too thick yet or she doesn't like it. She also can't be too hungry, or too full, or too tired, OR she just wants to eat the spoon. One point Whitney, zero mama.

4 Month Update

Whitney had her 4 month appt. this morning. For the shots she cried briefly and immediately fell asleep as I was walking out. She even slept the whole way home, which tells you how tired and traumatized she was because she hates her car seat. I was pretty close on my measurements. She weighs 14lbs 14 oz (68%) and 24.25 in (42%). The nurse initially measured her at 23in, I commented that it seemed really short but that did not prompt her to remeasure. At least the Dr caught it and thought that seemed abnormal for her growth and fixed it. I guess if they hadn't remeasured they just would have thought she had a super growth spurt at her next appt. Playing with her Einstein caterpillar after we got home. She was so busy with it she wouldn't even look at me. She was probably mad at me for taking her to the hospital!

Out the door to the hospital.

Earlier this morning. She was sitting up playing with her new Sillytown, but she tipped backwards and decided to play with it with her feet!

4 Months

Whitney is four months old already. Her unoffical stats are 24 inches and 15 lbs. We have her well baby next tuesday, so I'll let you all know her official stats. She is all too ready to grow up too fast. She has been on cereal for two weeks now, and today I started cereal twice a day. She is obviously growing well and likes to eat! Breast milk alone is not enough any more for her little tummy, or I should say big tummy! I love staying home with her and am thankful that I am able to do so!

This Is What Happens..

when Daddy feeds the baby!
